Maxie Powers, age 104, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026. She was born on February 10, 1922, to the late Johnnie and Rosie Blair (Colvin).
Maxie was known for her feisty spirit, her faith, and her quick wit. She loved her family deeply and had a way of making people laugh, even in the simplest moments. She is survived by her daughters Betty Porter, Judy (John) Conley, and Bonnie Ellis; her sisters-in-law Maxine Blair and Shelby Jean Blair; her grandchildren Lorie (Jeremy) Gillis, James (Melissa) Cheek, Donald (Dawn) Cheek, Amy (John) O’Reilly, Jeff Porter, Qwendolyn Cheek, and Karen (Jon) McKinney; 10 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands James Lemaster and Grant Powers; her daughter Diane Pennington; her granddaughter Kim Helton; her son-in-law Phillip Porter; her sister Dorothy Webb; and her brothers Curtis, Bayless, Granville, Paul, Wayne, and Grady Blair.
Funeral service for Maxie Powers will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with John Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery at Barnetts Creek, Kentucky. Friends may visit the funeral home after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026 prior to funeral services.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the community, friends, and caregivers whose love, support, and kindness brought comfort and joy to Maxie’s life.
Maxie will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and never forgotten.
