MCHS Robotics rank 3rd in the State and advance to National Qualifier Invitational

LEXINGTON – Magoffin County High School’s FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics teams snagged a third place win at the state competition at the University of Kentucky last weekend, as well as both groups are advancing to the National Qualifier Invitational in June.

With their competition starting at 8 a.m. sharp, they interviewed and competed all day long, with finalist robot matches ending around 6:30 p.m., with 36 teams competing from all over Kentucky.

Team MC MAGIC received the following awards:
* Control Award, which celebrates a team that uses sensors and software to increase the robot’s functionality in the field.
* Green Leaf Award 3rd place, which awards teams that use renewable resources in their build.

After struggling with some major technical robot issues, they were able to overcome their difficulties.

Overall, they advanced to a National Qualifier in June!

Team MC HORNETS received the
* Rookie Top Finisher
* Placed 7th in the qualifying rounds of 35 matches
* Placed 3rd in the double elimination 10 round bracket.

This team contains all rookie FTC members! They have so much to be proud of. As rookies, it is exemplary to complete some of the tasks that this team did last weekend. Overall, they advanced to a National Qualifier in June!

Coach Jerica Conley said, “We are SO PROUD of these teams, and aside from their skills and determination, their gracious professionalism is something to be noticed: positive attitudes, encouraging one another and other teams, and never complaining no matter what the situation. Congratulations, guys! You deserve it!”
