Neva Mae Sparks of Flat Gap, Kentucky, departed this earthly life on September 4, 2022, at the age of 93.
She was born June 2, 1929, at Ramey Branch in Volga, Kentucky, to her parents Roba and Carrie Lemaster Ramey. She was married to William Earl Sparks on July 30, 1949 for 47 years. They had 5 children: Ford Allen Sparks (Laurie) of Flat Gap, James Russell Sparks (Cathy) of Salyersville, Billy Ray Sparks, JoAnn Thompson (Howard) of Flat Gap, and Gwendolyn McKenzie (Thomas) also of Flat Gap.
Neva Mae remarried Willard Sparks of Sunbury, Ohio and they were married for a year and a half until his passing. Neva Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Earl Sparks, her son, Billy Ray Sparks, her second husband, Willard Sparks, her stepson, Frank Sparks, and stepdaughter, Darlene. Also preceding her in death were brothers Elzie, Maybern, Elwood, Elbie, Frank, and one sister, Avanelle.
Left to mourn her loss are her children, three step-children, Angel, Rita (Don), and Diane all of Ohio; one brother, John Fred Ramey, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7 from 6-8 pm, concluding with a Celebration of Life at 7pm led by Pastor Derrick Meade with the Father’s House of Prayer Church, where Neva Mae was a member.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 8 at 1:00pm with visitation at 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm, led by her grandchildren, Rev. Amy Chapman, Paintsville Mayo Memorial UMC and Rev. Adam Sparks, St. Matthew’s UMC in Louisville. Burial will follow at the Sparks Cemetery, Flat Gap, Kentucky.
