Road Dedication Honoring PFC Jimmie Allen

A road dedication honoring Jimmie Allen, a Magoffin County soldier who was killed in action in the Korean War, was held on June 8, 2024, ceremoniously naming a portion of the Right Fork of S. Puncheon as Private First-Class Jimmie Allen Road.

Resolution No. 2024-04
WHEREAS, the Magoffin County Fiscal Court wishes to recognize the contributions and sacrifice made by Private First Class Jimmie Allen to his Country; and

WHEREAS, Jimmie Allen was born November 3, 1930; and

WHEREAS, Jimmie Allen enlisted in the United States Army early part of 1950, not long after completing his Infantry training. He trained with the 21st Infantry Division and after his training he was shipped to Korea. After being in Korea for a short time, they were engaged in the Battle of Osan, the first engagement between the United States and North Korea. On July 5, 1950, Task Force Smith, Private First-Class Jimmie Allen and 540 other infantry soldiers supported by an Artillery battery was ordered to fight a rearguard to delay an advancing North Korean Infantry consisting of over 5,000 soldiers. The task force was out manned and was forced to retreat. The task force fought with vigor and honor. The battle was fierce. During the combat, Private First-Class Jimmie Allen was killed in action on July 5, 1950.

WHEREAS, Private First-Class Jimmie Allen was awarded the Purple Heart, and many other commendations, for his heroic actions.

WHEREAS, Private First-Class Jimmie Allen did not make it home to talk to loved ones and friends about his experiences of the war. He was killed in action July 5, 1950. Private First-Class Allen now lays in peaceful sleep in the hands of the Supreme Commander at the Hatcher Allen Family Cemetery on Puncheon Creek, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that S. Puncheon Right Fork (CR-1124), from mile-point 0.00 to mile-point 3.668, be forever known as Private First-Class Jimmie Allen Road.
