SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Sheriff Department pulled a total of three individuals from under the floor of a Magoffin County residence last night, arresting the three and one from inside the residence.
The sheriff department was reportedly attempting to serve outstanding warrants at the location, specifically for an individual who had eluded police numerous times over the past several days prior.
According to authorities, Jacob Scott Gamble, 28, of Falcon Road, in Salyersville, first escaped handcuffs while being handcuffed to a bed at Paintsville ARH and waiting for medical clearance, fleeing from law enforcement on foot.
Then, on Sunday night, he fled from police on an ATV, while also aiming the all-terrain vehicle directly at a sheriff’s deputy, attempting to hit the officer while escaping, again, according to police.
On Tuesday, authorities received a tip that Gamble and others wanted by police were staying at the residence of Israel Moore, at Whitelick Branch. After going to the residence and making contact with Moore, police reported hearing people climbing underneath the floor of the mobile home.
Moore confirmed for police that Gamble had been at the residence, claiming 30 minutes earlier, as well as a Teresa Cornett, 51, of Falcon, and Douglas Wright, but said they were no longer there, even checking the home for the three and then telling police there was no one inside.
After continuing to hear sounds coming from below the floor of the mobile home, police went inside and found the “escape hatch” in the floor where the three reportedly had crawled through and were hiding underneath the trailer.
Cornett was wanted for an outstanding warrant of third-degree burglary charge out of Boyd County. Douglas Wright, 49, of Tackett Br., Salyersville, was wanted on an indictment warrant out of Johnson County for DUI, 4th or more, and being a persistent felony offender, and other charges.
Gamble was originally wanted on a failure to appear or contempt warrant for not completing rehab, but after being found in possession of drugs in a traffic stop, being taken to the hospital and handcuffed to a bed for medical clearance, then escaped, and authorities going to Phipps Fork when he jumped on an ATV, aimed it at a deputy and then escaped, again.
And now being found underneath a floor, he faces additional charges of fleeing and evading police in the first degree; wanton endangerment in the first degree of a police officer; another fleeing and evading; and tampering with physical evidence.
Israel Moore, 58, of Falcon, who is accused of hiding the three wanted individuals, was arrested and charged with obstruction or interference of a police officer and hindering prosecution in the second degree.
