Terry Norman Amyx

Terry Norman Amyx age 79 of White Oak in Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born May 29, 1945 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late Kodie and Dorothy Robbins Amyx. His paternal grandparents, Harrison and Rebecca (Risner) Amyx, raised Terry after his mother’s untimely death in 1946.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Garnett Collinsworth Amyx, two sons, Joel (Sym) Amyx, and James (Kerry) Amyx both of Michigan. Also, survived by his extended family son, Harold (Tonya) McCarty of Salyersville, Kentucky, Joanne McCarty of Paintsville, Kentucky, one sister, Sharon (Vencil) Helton of Shelbyville, Kentucky, nine grandchildren, Tyler, Thomas, Noah, Aiden, Quentin, Brandon, Craig, Cody (Erin), Rachel (James), four great-grandchildren, Chasin, Harley, Delilah Jane, Waylon, with a host of nieces and nephews, one special aunt, Margaret Risner, one special uncle, Coburn Amyx, two special nieces that called him papaw, Ashley and Breanna.

In addition to parents, and grandparents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Amyx, Daniel Amyx, one sister, Norma Headrick, two special aunts, Ruie Amyx McCarty, and Maxine Amyx Howard.

Terry was raised on Grandaddy Branch in Magoffin County. Upon graduation from high school, he went with his father, Kodie and his wife Louise, to Michigan to start the next chapter of his life.

He was soon called to active duty in the US Army. Terry was a Vietnam Veteran, served in the First Calvary Division.

Terry would spend the next thirty-two years in Michigan. He met and married Patricia Miller Amyx, and they raised their two sons there. Even though he lived in Michigan, he always said that Kentucky was his home. Upon taking a medical retirement from GM Motors, he moved back to Kentucky, ran into his high school sweetheart and remarried. He always told everyone, “this Hillbilly came home.” Terry loved to hunt, fish, ride horses, travel, and play music, all of which he was able to do until his health started to fail.

He loved his family very much. Terry was able to connect with is mother’s family and enjoyed visiting with them. He will be sadly missed by who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 17, 2025 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Todd Radosenic officiating. Burial followed in the Tom Collinsworth Cemetery at White Oak, Kentucky.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
