STATEWIDE – The Kentucky Department of Education release the 2024-2025 test scores on Wednesday this week, with Magoffin County Schools having many reasons to celebrate.
With the information dropping on press day, the SI was only able to go over the base information from the test scores, so look for a full rundown of the data in next week’s paper.
The KDE classifies schools’ performance levels by color ratings, from highest to lowest: blue, green, yellow, orange and red.
Magoffin County High School dropped from yellow to orange rating this year, compared to last year, but they hit the top of the charts with a blue rating in the graduation rate and the quality of school climate and safety. MCHS also had a green rating in postsecondary readiness.
Herald Whitaker Midde School held steady at a yellow category, same as the year before. Similar to the high school, they also scored a blue rating in quality of school climate and safety, which last year had been a weakness statewide at the middle school level.
North Magoffin Elementary also stayed in the yellow category, same as the two previous years. Notable high points for NME included a blue rating for the quality of school climate and safety and a green rating in reading and math indicator and science, social studies and writing indicator.
Salyersville Grade School was rated the highest in the district for the second year in a row, holding steady in the green category. SGS hit blue in the science, social studies and writing indicator, and green for their overall score, the reading and math indicator and in the quality of school climate and safety.
South Magoffin Elementary dropped from green to yellow this year, as compared to last year, but did have a blue rating in the quality of school climate and safety and a green rating in the science, social studies and writing indicator.
