Two arrested in stabbing incident: Police still looking for one suspect

LEFT HAND FORK OF JOHNSON FORK – Two men were arrested Thursday night after an altercation involving a stabbing on Zeno Duchnowski Road, off the Left Hand Fork of Johnson Fork, with police still searching for one man.

According to the arrest citations, at approximately 9:39 p.m. on February 1, the Magoffin County Sheriff Department responded to a call reporting a fight at a home on Zeno Duchnowski Road. Deputy W. Lafferty arrived to the scene, making contact with Terric Duchnowski, 29 years old, and Stephen Duchnowski, 30, years old, both of Salyersville.

The two reportedly told police they went to their uncle’s home to confront another male subject that was there. Both stated that their uncle started hitting Terric with a small bat, then the other male subject attacked and stabbed Terric in the right arm and his stomach.

Police talked with their uncle, who also had a laceration on the top of his hand and his nose, who told them he had just came back home from going grocery shopping when he heard his nephews and his brother pull up the hill, get out of their truck and started yelling and cussing. He told police they were yelling, “it all ends here,” and “they were the Hatfields and he was the McCoys.”

According to the arrest citations, their uncle told police Terric charged him and he pulled out a small bat from his back pocket and struck him a few times before Terric took the bat and began to hit him in the head, causing his injuries. He also said Stephen hit him with his fist in the chest and stomach. Terric and Stephen both denied these allegations, though, but their uncle said he had video footage he would bring to the sheriff’s office.

Terric Duchnowski was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a Class C felony, and Stephen Duchnowski was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (no visible injury), a Class A misdemeanor. The two were held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, but were released on February 5, with preliminary hearings in their cases set for February 12 at 9:15 a.m. at the Magoffin County Justice Center.

Police were unable to locate Daniel Armstrong, the other man reportedly involved in the altercation and accused of stabbing Terric Duchnowski, so warrants will be sought for his arrest for assault, according to the arrest citation.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
