IMPROVEMENT ROAD – The chief of the North Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department was the first to arrive on scene to a wreck on Monday, immediately realizing the call involved some of his close family members.
Crews were called to a one-vehicle wreck on Improvement Road Monday, September 27 afternoon. First responders found a couple in their car, which was overturned.
Josh Jenkins, chief of the North Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department told Mortimer Media Group the vehicle went over the embankment, hit rocks and flipped over. Upon first responders’ arrival, the driver had exited the vehicle and helped the passenger out, as well.
The husband and wife were both alert and talking when crews arrived, but had suffered some serious and traumatic injuries. Paramedics with Lifeguard Ambulance Service called for two medical helicopters. The two Air Evac units were landed on Improvement Hill next to the church, with both occupants of the vehicle flown to Pikeville Medical Center.
Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but serious.
Traffic was blocked on Improvement for approximately two hours.
