Hornets roll past Adams

PRESTONSBURG — Herald Whitaker pulled away to defeat Adams 38-6 in a middle school football game at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Hornets excelled throughout the seventh grade-eighth grade football matchup, winning the A-team game convincingly.

Quarterback Cole Howard continued to lead the Hornets. Howard rushed seven times for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Making an impact both on the ground and through the air, Howard added 31 passing yards Also finding the endzone via special teams, Howard returned a kickoff 69 yards for a touchdown.

Showing versatility in the Hornets’ win, Bentlee Lemaster provided 31 receiving yards and 19 rushing yards.

Aiding Herald Whitaker on the ground, Jackson Hoskins delivered one rushing touchdown.

Defensively for Herald Whitaker, Carson Hirst recorded a team-high six tackles. Following Hirst, Layton Gibson posted five tackles for Herald Whitaker while Lemaster, Henry Holbrook and Caden Montgomery each supplied four tackles.

In another strong defensive performance for Herald Whitaker, Layne McCarty returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.

Herald Whitaker is scheduled to visit Pikeville for its next game on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The Herald Whitaker-Pikeville game was originally slated for Thursday, Aug. 21 before being rescheduled.
