SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to visit Pike County Central for a non-district matchup on Friday, Oct. 17.
The Hornets and Hawks did not meet in 2024. Magoffin County and Pike County Central have not met since the 2022 high school football season. Pike County Central held on to edge Magoffin County 13-12 on Oct. 14, 2022. However, Magoffin County prevailed in a meeting one season earlier, defeating Pike County Central 76-54 in a shootout on Oct. 15, 2021.
The Hornets compete in Class 3A, District 8.
The Hawks compete in Class 2A, District 8.
Magoffin County is 2-6. The Hornets have claimed wins over Rowan County and West Carter.
Floyd Central, Perry County Central, Winfield (W.Va.), Estill County, Powell County, and Letcher County Central have defeated the Hornets.
Through its first eight games in the 2025 high school football season, Magoffin County has scored 178 points and allowed 314 points.
Pike County Central is 2-5. The Hawks have posted wins over Floyd Central and East Ridge.
Greenup County, Martin County, Prestonsburg, Belfry and Shelby Valley have defeated the Hawks.
Through its first seven games in the 2025 high school football season, Pike County Central has scored 159 points and allowed 257 points. Magoffin County freshman Bryce Buckallew closed in on the ball during a Class 3A, District 8 game versus Letcher County Central on Friday, Oct. 10.
Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Pike County Central and Class 3A, District 8 opponent Lawrence County.
Pike County Central has regular season games remaining versus Magoffin County, Class 2A, District 8 opponent Betsy Layne and Powell County.
The Hornets are poised to visit Pike County Central after hosting back-to-back games versus Powell County and Letcher County Central.
The Magoffin County-Pike County Central game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
