Patrick sets personal bests

DANVILLE — The University of Pikeville men’s and women’s swimming teams competed at the Speedo Invitational hosted by Centre College in late-November.

On the men’s side, Jacob Rubado made the finals in the 100 individual medley, finishing in 18th place after recording a time of 1:02.18, two seconds better than his time in the prelims. Rubado also set new personal records in the 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, and 100 breaststroke events.

RJ Goins set a back-to-back personal best in the 200 backstroke prelims, then broke that personal best with a 2:09.96 in the finals. Goins finished 29th in the event.

Bryce Barton set a new personal best in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:30.83. Barton also shaved off 2.71 seconds in the 50 fly, with a time of 31.91.

On the women’s side, Kaylin Hatfield made finals in the 100 individual medley, swimming a 1:15.20 in the prelims and a 1:14.59 in the finals. Hatfield also set new personal bests in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.

Madelyn Smith set new personal bests in the 100 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, and 200 breaststroke.

Daylin Patrick set new personal bests in every event she swam in, highlighted by a 12 second improvement in the 200 backstroke. In addition to the 200 backstroke, Patrick set new bests in the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and the 100 backstroke. Patrick is a Magoffin County High School graduate.

Bailey Walker swam 32.72 in the 50 freestyle, a new personal best, and swam 1:18.57 in the 100 freestyle. Tayla Howroyd set new personal bests in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 36.01 and 1:23.27, respectively.

The University of Pikeville is scheduled to host Shawnee State University for a home meet on Thursday, Dec. 11.
