Hornets edge Jackson City

JACKSON — Magoffin County edged Jackson City 3-2 on Thursday, March 26.

The Hornets plated the game-winning run in the top half of the seventh inning.

Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and earned the win. Howard pitched three innings and recorded four strikeouts.

After replacing Howard on the mound, Evan Reed pitched the last four innings in relief and picked up the save. Reed recorded three strikeouts.

Kannan Lovins started on the mound for Jackson City and suffered the loss. Lovins pitched six innings and recorded six strikeouts.

Following Lovins, Gavan Ritchie pitched the final inning in relief for the Tigers. Ritchie struck out two Magoffin County batters.

Several players aided the Hornets offensively. Magoffin County scored three runs on nine hits. Howard (two hits), Reed (one hit, one RBI), Aiden Carty (two hits, one RBI), Aden Montgomery (two hits), Michael Trusty (one hit), Gavin Arnett (one hit) and Brayden Bailey (one RBI) provided Magoffin County’s offense. Both Howard and Trusty doubled.

Jackson City plated two runs on three hits. Ritchie (one hit), Lovins (one hit, one RBI) and Jordan Turner (one hit, one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Tigers. Providing an extra-base hit, Ritchie doubled.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Jackson City for a game in the second half of the 2026 high school baseball season on Wednesday, May 6.
