PHELPS – Kennedy Williams scored 15 points and teammate Angel Mullis recorded a double-double to lead visiting Magoffin County over Phelps 43-31 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 7.
The win allowed Magoffin County to even its record to 1-1.
Following the loss, Phelps dropped to 0-2.
Williams was 3-of-7 from 3-point range. She finished 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Mullis scored 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Magoffin County in the win.
Magoffin County shot 40 percent (14-of-35) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 3-of-10 (30 percent) from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line.
Excelling inside, Magoffin County claimed 37 rebounds.
Haley Barnett added seven points, Karah Lafferty contributed four points and Jaylen McCarty finished with three points in Magoffin County’s winning effort.
Stephanie Helton and Abby Barnett rounded out Magoffin County’s individual scoring, chipping in two points apiece.
Haley Barnett ranked as the Lady Hornets’ second-leading rebounder, grabbing eight rebounds.
Magoffin County and Phelps aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2020-21 girls’ high school basketball season.
