SALYERSVILLE – An art exhibition celebrating the life and work of Salyersville native Thomas J. Whitaker will be open to the public at the Salyersville Renaissance on Main from August 30th through September 4th. “We wanted to do this show because Tom was such a symbol of what Appalachia represents in contrast to the negative stereotypes our area often receives in the media,” says Jessica Salyer, director and curator of Mainstreet Art Studios and Salyersville Renaissance Art Guild member, “He is a symbol of everything we can be”.

The art guild has been working closely with the family collecting photos and memories to create what is much more than an art show – this will be a celebration of the artist and the mark he made on our area. Guild members raised funds to make the show possible.

During the showing, all recommended COVID-19 precautions will be followed.

The Salyersville Renaissance Art Guild is a collective of artists and art lovers once led by Thomas Whitaker himself. Members are excited to commemorate our late friend who was a strong influence on all artists in our area.
