SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County edged Pike County Central 69-67 on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Senior guard Aden Barnett made a buzzer-beating shot to lift Magoffin County to the win.
Magoffin County shot 45.9 percent (27-of-59) from the field in its thrilling win. The Hornets made two of 14 three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line in its victory.
Barnett poured in a game-high 32 points to lead Magoffin County to the win. The productive Barnett made 10 of 10 free throw attempts.
Accompanying Barnett in double figures for Magoffin County, Zane Whitaker netted 14 points.
Narrowly missing double figures for the Hornets, Grayson Whitaker netted nine points.
Contributing to Magoffin County’s win, Walker Russell scored seven points, Reed Meadows netted five points and Ethan Salyer chipped in two points.
Zane Whitaker paced Magoffin County inside, pulling down eight rebounds for the Hornets.
Pike County Central shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field. Struggling to connect beyond the arc, Pike County Central made only three of 18 three-point field goal attempts.
However, the Hawks shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line and managed to outrebound Magoffin County 31-26.
Jaylan Rigdon scored 23 points and pulled down no rebounds to lead the Hawks.
Following Rigdon’s leading performance for Pike County Central, Jaden Stewart netted 18 points and claimed eight rebounds.
Delivering a double-double for the Hawks, Peyton Owens scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Rounding out Pike County Central’s scoring, Grant Hall added five points and Jacob Slone contributed four points.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Pike County Central on Jan. 12, 2024.
