SALYERSVILLE – Two more indictments were released this past week as police continue to serve the defendants charged by a Magoffin County grand jury on June 20.
Lonzie C. McKenzie, 47, of Middle Fork Road, in Salyersville, is charged with one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (a Class D felony). According to the indictment, on or about August 23, 2023, McKenzie allegedly knowingly and unlawfully possessed a quantity of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.
Nicholas S. Barnett, 36, of West Van Lear, is charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense, greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine (Class C felony); possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor); possessing license when privileges are revoked (Class A misdemeanor); and operating a motor vehicle on suspended or revoked operator’s license (Class B misdemeanor). According to the indictment, on or about April 25 and 26, 2024, Barnett allegedly possessed a quantity of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, as well as possessed other drug paraphernalia. He is accused of having his driver’s license with him, knowing his privileges were revoked at the time of the offense, as well as operating a motor vehicle while his license was knowingly suspended.
So far five indictments have been released from the last grand jury meeting, though it is unknown how many people were charged until each can be served either with warrants or court summons.
