David Franklin Spurlock II

David Franklin Spurlock II, affectionately known as Little Dave, passed away at the age of 63 on January 13, 2025. Born on September 5, 1961, in Salyersville, KY, he was the son of the late David Franklin Spurlock and Shirley Conley Spurlock.

Little Dave was a passionate car enthusiast, well known around town for driving his cherished Datsun 280z. He had an enduring love for motorsports, particularly the Grand Prix races, and he fondly remembered attending the Palm Beach Grand Prix in 1985—a highlight of his racing fandom.

In addition to his love for cars, Little Dave had a special place in his heart for Labrador Retrievers, whose loyalty and companionship brought him great joy throughout his life.

David attended Mid-America College of Mortuary Science, where he earned his degree and went on to become a dedicated funeral director and embalmer. He was a highly skilled embalmer and restorative artist, taking immense pride in his work and the care he provided to the families in his community. His commitment to helping others during their most difficult times left a lasting impact.

David will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication, and the way he made a difference in the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his children Evan Spurlock and Trey Spurlock, as well as a host of cousins and extended family and friends.

A memorial service in their honor will be held at 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2025, at Salyersville First Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and legacy starting at 4:00 p.m. at the church.

Washington, DC 20090-6929, in David’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of the Steen Funeral Homes of Ashland, Kentucky.
