PIKEVILLE – Sophomore catcher Erin Bolen and her University of Pikeville teammates are scheduled to open the 2021 college softball season at home versus visiting St. Francis University on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The Bears are slated to host St. Francis for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Bolen, who is from Salyersville, started four games for Pikeville during her freshman campaign.
The Magoffin County graduate drove in one run for the Bears during the 2020 college softball season. Defensively, Bolen recorded a .927 fielding percentage in her debut college campaign.
The coronavirus outbreak forced the 2020 college softball season to end early in March. The pandemic sidelined college softball teams throughout the nation.
The Bears ended the abbreviated 2020 college softball season 11-3. Pikeville put together a six-game winning steak during the 2020 season. The Bears’ shortened season included wins over Indiana Wesleyan, WVU Tech, Rochester, Alice Lloyd, Penn State Fayette, Haskell Indian Nations, Ohio Christian, Penn State Beaver and Holy Family.
The Bears compete in the Mid-South Conference, along with Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland (Tenn.), Georgetown, Shawnee State, Campbellsville, Thomas Moore and Cumberlands (Ky.).
