LICK CREEK – Crews have confirmed that work is expected to start in July to replace the bridge on KY Rt. 3334 Old Lick Creek Road that that was closed last month when an inspection revealed significant deterioration of the bridge beams.

Magoffin County Judge/Executive Matthew Wireman told Mortimer Media Group the engineer for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 10 has confirmed that the design is complete, and the beams are being ordered this week. They also said they have a contractor ready to begin the work whenever the beams arrive.

While it all depends on when the beams are ready, the project is expected to begin mid-July and they hope to have it finished before school starts in August.

The bridge, located at mile point 1.1, crosses Brushy Fork and is located just east of the Brushy Creek Road, 1.1 miles east of KY 2019.

Signs and barricades are currently up to notify drivers of the bridge’s closure, with motorists left to use KY 2019, US 460, KY 40 and KY 1081 to the south, or KY 2019 and KY 1081 to the north.

Approximately 130 vehicles use this section of KY 3334 each day.
