MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Dayne Brown has been named the head coach of the Faulkner University football program.
Faulkner University announced Brown’s hiring at the conclusion of its daily chapel assembly om Thursday, Jan. 9.
Brown is Magoffin County High School graduate.
“This opportunity means the world to my entire family,” said Brown. “We have always been about – (1) faith, (2) family and (3) football It is very important for us to be at an institution that not only supports but promotes Godly values. We are excited to be able to be open up about our beliefs and to influence and lead others in that area as well. Our lives have been dedicated to helping young people succeed. We are excited about having the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of – not only the football team – but everyone at Faulkner University.”
“The committee had a number of quality applicants for this position. As we narrowed it down, Dayne stood out with the committee,” Faulkner University Vice President of Athletics Hal Wynn said. “We are looking forward to watching Dayne strengthen the program within the vision of the university.”
Brown becomes the eighth head coach in program history as he sets to helm a collegiate program for the first time following an accomplished career as an assistant at a variety of stops. Brown began his collegiate career in 2007 as recruiting coordinator and director of football operations at Big 10 mainstay Northwestern. In 2011, the Morehead State graduate took his talents to the NAIA where he served as defensive coordinator at Pikeville. Brown returned to the NCAA Division I ranks in 2013 when he took the director of recruiting role at Southern Miss before going on to the DFO spot at Kent State in 2016. Brown returned to the power conference ranks in 2018 when he served as assistant director of recruiting and a special teams analyst at Kansas before taking a similar role at Troy in 2019. By 2021, Brown moved into the role of special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for the Trojans.
“Dayne Brown’s extensive collegiate experience in recruiting and developing top student-athletes will lead to a great future for Faulkner Eagles football,” Faulkner University President Mitch Henry said of the hire. “His player-focused philosophy, combined with his spiritual commitment will help foster an atmosphere in which our student-athletes will thrive, academically, athletically, emotionally and spiritually.”
Brown, who takes over the Eagle program following the departure of Rob Gray in December, returns to the collegiate ranks after a brief stint as defensive coordinator at Class 7A Enterprise High School. Brown’s career has also featured head coaching stops at Harmony High School (Fla.) and Magoffin County High School as well as assistant coaching stints at Saint Cloud High School (Fla.) and Lake Howell High School (Fla.).
“Our program is going to focus on making young men be the ‘best versions’ of themselves that they can be. This emphasis will be both on and off the field! We are going to focus on the daily process of being very hard-working and detailed in everything we do,” Brown explained. “We will play smart, be fast and PHYSICAL and will play an exciting brand of football on all sides of the ball. We will be a TEAM, not a collection of individuals. We will demonstrate that with focus on the process of consistent preparation. The results will take care of themselves.”
