Cleta Faye Adams Whisenant

Cleta Faye Adams Whisenant, age 91, of East Highway 60, Salt Lick, a native of Magoffin County, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, surrounded by family at her home after an extended illness.

Born July 2, 1931, in Stella, KY, in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Fannie Rowe Adams. In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles Russell Whisenant who passed on September 8, 2021. Faye, the last of her immediate family, was also preceded in death by six sisters: Ophia Adams Arnett, Audra Adams Burton, Delphia Adams Reed, Annis Adams King, Jewell Adams Harvey, and two brothers: Elmer Adams and Alvin Davis.

Faye is survived by nephews, Gary (Ralpha) Harvey and Terry (Sandy) Harvey, both of Salt Lick; niece, Teresa (David) Arnett of Salt Lick; great nieces, Jessica Harvey and Katelyn Harvey, both of Salt Lick, Makayla (Austin) Lewis of Mt. Sterling, great nephew, Nathan (fiancee’ Amanda) Harvey of Salt Lick, great-great niece, Mallory Lewis of Mt. Sterling, a host of other nieces and nephews and her wonderful friend and caregiver, Beverly Snedegar.

Faye moved to Ohio at an early age where she met the love of her life, ‘Charlie’, as she called him. We all knew him as Uncle Chuck. She worked 35 years for Owens-Illinois Glass in Columbus, Ohio, as a Glass Selector, where she continually switched between the shifts of days, evenings and nights every 7 days. When she and Charlie retired in 1989, they moved to Kentucky where they enjoyed an additional 32 wonderful years together. Throughout those years, she and Charlie canned and froze the vegetables they raised in their garden; crocheted and donated numerous afghans to multiple organizations for fundraisers; worked endlessly in church activities; provided care for her sister, Jewell Harvey and her husband, Mitchell, as their health declined; cherished her daily visits and numerous phone calls with the second most important person in her life, great niece, Jessica Harvey; all the while maintaining contact with her additional nieces and nephews and their activities. She loved the Lord with all of her heart. She and Charlie were faithful members of the Sharkey Baptist Church even though sickness prevented them from attending in person for the past several years. She survived 18 months after the passing of her sweetheart, Charlie.

Services were held on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Elijah Sexton, Arbadella Reed and Austin Lewis officiating. Burial followed at Jones Cemetery in Salt Lick.

Pallbearers were Terry Harvey, David Arnett, Nathan Harvey, Austin Lewis, Rondal Reed and Mike Reed.
