Controlled drug buys lead to arrests

JOHNSON AND MAGOFFIN COUNTIES – After a year-long investigation conducted by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Operation Unite, and D.E.A. London involving the trafficking of illegal narcotics into Johnson and surrounding counties, four people, including two from Magoffin, were arrested in Johnson County last week.

According to the press release, the Johnson County Sheriff Department executed a search warrant at the home of Charles Allen Chandler in Tutor Key in Johnson County on August 12.

Police reportedly recovered approximately 1,238 grams (2.7 lbs.) of methamphetamine, 18 grams of heroin and $18,819.00 in cash.

Arrested was Charles Allen Chandler, age 51, and charged with trafficking a controlled substance 1st degree over 2 grams, a Class C Felony. Also charged for complicity to traffic in a controlled substance, first degree, was Ashley Johnson, 35, of Magoffin County, and Cory Brandon Johnson, age 32, also of Magoffin County. Jayshawn “Dro Skino” Robinson was arrested, as well, on a Michigan warrant for armed robbery and is presently being detained at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center pending extradition.

Bill Meade, with the Johnson County Sheriff Department, told Mortimer Media Group, the investigation originated in some controlled buys from an individual that lived in Magoffin County and moved to Johnson County a few months ago.

“Through the previous controlled buys that we had conducted, we were able to obtain enough information to secure a search warrant for the residence of Charles Allen Chandler,” Meade said.

Meade told Mortimer Media Group Robinson was wanted out of Michigan on violent crimes and noted that the local case is still under investigation, with additional charges likely.

Officer Meade also told MMG that, according to the DEA and Johnson County Sheriff Department, Chandler is believed to be a mid-to-upper level dealer, moving serious amounts of methamphetamine and heroin on a monthly basis.

Johnson County Sheriff Saylor and the Johnson County Sheriff Office also noted in the press release that they remain committed to the fight against illegal drugs in Johnson County and ask for any information from the public, with an anonymous tip line available at 1-606-788-0252.

Both Ashley Johnson and Jayshawn Robinson were also arrested a few weeks ago on other drug and gun charges, along with another man, while inside a rental property they reportedly did not have permission to enter.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
