Delbert Bailey, Sr.

Delbert Bailey Sr. was born in Salyersville, Kentucky on January 30, 1945. Delbert’s parents were Ollie and Wonnie Bailey of Salyersville, Kentucky. Delbert entered glory surrounded by his family on March 24, 2023 at the age of 78. His beloved bride, Marjorie Sue Bailey, proceeded him in death on August 30, 2020. Delbert leaves behind his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings: Michael (Faith) Wilson of Salyersville, Kentucky; Nita (Greg) Maxwell of Belleville, Michigan; Kimberly Wilson of Sevierville, Tennessee; Delbert Jr. (Jessica) Bailey of Salyersville, Kentucky; Lucinda (Ben) Brabson of Sevierville, Tennessee. Beloved grandchildren: Jacob (Jordan) Maxwell, Lorna (Joshua) Minix, Abby Maxwell, Alana Ervin, Grace Bailey (Nathan Minix), Joshua Ervin, Morgan Wilson, Peyton Bailey, Caleb Wilson, Jack Maxwell, and five great-grandchildren: Riley, Mila, Demi, Willa Minix and Cain Minix. Delbert leaves behind his three brothers; Carl, Roy and Ollie Bailey. He was one of seven children. He was proceeded in death by his grandson, Andrew Morgan Bailey, brother Paul Bailey and sisters; Dorothy Seelig and Rose Conley. His friends were numerous and dear to him.

Delbert was a self-taught car mechanic. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1962-1965. He was a Private First Class who was deployed in Germany for a NATO field training exercise, a part of operation BIG LIFT ending November 5, 1965. He worked as a Fireman for General Motors in Michigan for over 25 years. He was a member of the Salyersville Masonic Lodge #769. He and his brother Ollie were the co-founders of Bailey Brothers Auto. In addition, he owned Williams Cab Company with his Operations Manager, Mary Rogers and Super Sport Auto Sales with his son, Mike Wilson.

Delbert loved God, family, friends, cars, beer, racing and each day that the good Lord gave to him. He always said famously, “It will be alright!” and when he said it, we all knew it would be.

Funeral Services for Delbert Bailey, Sr. were conducted Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from the Salyersville First Baptist Church with Tim Clark officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Kentucky.

There were Masonic Rites conducted by the Salyersville Lodge #769 F&AM, Monday evening March 27, 2023 from the Salyersville First Baptist Church.

Military Rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 the day of the funeral service.

In Lieu of Flowers the family has requested that contributions to please be made to the Bethel Bible Church at 71 William Arnett Br, Salyersville, Ky. 41465

Psalm 27:4 “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that I will seek: that I will dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple.”
