SANDY HOOK — Magoffin County couldn’t work its way into the win column as Elliott County prevailed 3-0 in an early-season high school softball game on Monday, March 25.
Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 0-3.
Elliott County improved to 4-2 after posting the win.
Breaking open a scoreless game, Elliott County pushed across one run in the bottom half of the third inning.
Extending its lead, Elliott County crossed home plate again during its fourth at-bat.
Leading 2-0, Elliott County added another run in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Elliott Cunty pitcher Claire Whitley claimed the win in the circle. Whitley pitched a two-hit shutout, recording 16 strikeouts.
Magoffin County pitcher Laney Bledsoe suffered the loss. Bledsoe allowed three runs on two hits while recording seven strikeouts.
Kristen Castro and Hanah McDaniels each drove in one run for Elliott County, which competes in the bordering 16th Region.
Bledsoe and Kaden Williams each provided one hit for the Lady Hornets. Supplying an extra-base hit, Bledsoe doubled.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Elliott County for another game on Wednesday, April 24.
