Grayson Whitaker honored for scoring 1,000th point

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County senior guard Grayson Whitaker was recognized for scoring his 1,000th point as the Hornets hosted Letcher County Central for a home opener on Thursday, Dec. 7.

A standout for Magoffin County, Whitaker received a commemorative basketball for reaching the scoring milestone.

Whitaker is a longtime key contributor for the Hornets.

Through Magoffin County’s first four games in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season, Whitaker was averaging 15.2 points per matchup.

As a junior in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season, Whitaker averaged 11 points per game for the Hornets. Whitaker scored 265 points for the Hornets during his junior campaign.

Currently, Whitaker and his Magoffin County teammates are off to a 3-2 start in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season.

Magoffin County is the defending 2A – Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Champion.
