SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to beat Betsy Layne 62-45 on Friday, Feb. 14.
The Hornets won on Senior Night.
Magoffin County shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field. The Hornets shot 41.2 percent (seven-of-17) from three-point range.
Magoffin County made five of 12 free throw attempts in its convincing victory.
Walker Russell led Magoffin County to the win. Russell delivered a game-high double-double for Magoffin County, scoring 25 points and clearing out 10 rebounds.
Barely missing double figures for Magoffin County, Evan Reed scored nine points while Michael Trusty and Maycen Allen netted eight points apiece.
Eight different players entered Magoffin County’s scoring column. The additional scorers for Magoffin County were Jackson Gilliland (four points), Chase Perkins (three points), Parker Bowling (three points) and Caleb Lovely (two points).
Defensively, Magoffin County limited Betsy Layne throughout the game.
Betsy Layne shot only 29.2 percent (14-of-48) from the field. The Bobcats shot 31.2 percent (five-of-16) from three-point range.
Betsy Layne shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.
Caden Hall paced Betsy Layne, scoring a team-high 10 points for the Bobcats. Hall made three of eight three-point field goal attempts.
The other scorers for Betsy Layne were Canyon Slone (nine points), Chandler Coleman (eight points), Cooper Justice (five points), Jaxon Johnson (five points), Maddox Meade (four points), Eli Jarrell (two points) and Ethan Lance (two points).
