Hornets beat Blackcats on the road

PRESTONSBURG — Magoffin County turned in a dominant performance on the road during the final week of the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball regular season, defeating host Prestonsburg 70-47 on Thursday, Feb 19.

The Hornets returned to the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Belfry and Phelps.

Magoffin County forced Prestonsburg to play from behind throughout the matchup. The Hornets took a double-digit lead out of each quarter.

Magoffin County shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field. The Hornets shot 31.8 percent (seven-of-22) from three-point range.

Magoffin County shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the free throw line.

Walker Russell (21 points), Parker Bowling (14 points), Maycen Allen (14 points) and Jackson Gilliland (11 points) each reached double figures in scoring for the Hornets.

Finishing outside double figures for Magoffin County were Caleb Lovely (four points), Evan Reed (three points) and Michael Trusty (three points).
