SALYERSVILLE – Following a one-run loss to Shelby Valley one day earlier, Magoffin County blanked visiting Betsy Layne 10-0 in five innings in a high school softball game on Tuesday, May 18.
Former 15th Region champion Magoffin County set the tone early and pulled away to defeat Betsy Layne convincingly in the high school softball matchup.
The Hornets moved ahead early and forced Betsy Layne (58th District) to play from behind throughout the high school softball contest.
Magoffin County pitcher Holly Handshoe pitched a three-hit shutout and earned the win in the circle. Handshoe recorded seven strikeouts over five innings.
The Hornets plated 10 runs on 13 hits.
Handshoe (2-for-2, one RBI), Jaylynn Lafferty (3-for-3, one RBI), Jaden Williams (2-for-3, four RBIs), Presley Smith (1-for-4, two RBIs), Kaylee Morrison (1-for-1, one RBI), Emilee Bailey (1-for-3), Scarlett McCarty (1-for-2) and Rylie Castle (1-for-3) each contributed at the plate for Magoffin County in the convincing victory.
Magoffin County notched its second win over Betsy Layne in the 2021 high school softball season.
