PAINTSVILLE — Magoffin County couldn’t overcome an early deficit as Johnson Central pulled away to win 90-43 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Johnson Central shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the field in its winning effort. The Golden Eagles shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 100 percent (12-of-12) from the free throw line.
Brayden Shepherd poured in a game-high 37 points for the Golden Eagles. Shepherd made seven of 10 three-point field goal attempts.
As part of a diverse offensive attack, Dawson Montgomery (12 points), Austin Slone (11 points) and Mason McKenzie (10 points) accompanied Shepherd in double figures for the Golden Eagles.
The other scorers for Johnson Central were Cooper Blair (six points), Kaleb Callaham (five points), Jaidon Daniel (five points) and Kyle Rose (four points).
Magoffin County shot 35 percent (14-of-40) from the field. The Hornets made one of five three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line.
Walker Russell paced Magoffin County, scoring 22 points and claiming seven rebounds for the Hornets.
Aiding Magoffin County offensively, Parker Bowling (seven points), Michael Trusty (six points), Jackson Gilliland (four points) and Tayte Hall (four points) joined Russell in the Hornets’ scoring column.
