Hornets drop season opener to Wolfe County

CAMPTON — Wolfe County prevented Magoffin County from winning in a season opener, defeating the Hornets 11-6 on Thursday, March 19.

The Wolves and Hornets were tied 2-2 midway through the third inning. However, Wolfe County erupted for seven runs in its third at bat.

Chance Fallen started on the mound for Wolfe County and earned the win. Fallen pitched three innings and recorded six strikeouts.

Chipping in on the mound, Slade Freeman and Jayden Molands each pitched two innings in relief for the Wolves.

Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Trusty pitched two and two-thirds innings, tallying three strikeouts.

Following Trusty, Aiden Carty and Hunter Arnett each pitched in relief for the Hornets.

Wolfe County scored 11 runs on nine hits. Molands (one hit), Landon McWhorter (two hits, two RBIs), Kris Evans (two hits, one RBI), Jaden Hollon (two hits), Jaxson Hollon (one hit, one RBI), Cam Hollon (one hit) and Max Whisman (one RBI) comprised Wolfe County’s offensive attack.

Magoffin County plated six runs on four hits. Trusty (one hit, one RBI), Aden Montgomery (one hit), Brayden Bailey (one hit) and Evan Reed (one hit) combined to pace Magoffin County offensively.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Wolfe County for another game in the second half of the 2026 high school baseball season on Thursday, May 7.
