SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County entered the final month of the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball regular season 9-9.
The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, compiled a 2-2 record during the final week in February.
Magoffin County topped Martin County 70-59 for a 57th District win in Inez on Monday, Feb. 22, sweeping a 57th District regular season series from the reigning 15th Region champion in the process.
However, visiting Perry County Central, a perennial 14th Region title contender, dealt Magoffin County a loss two days later, defeating the Hornets 60-49 in Salyersville on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Returning to the win column on the road one day later on Thursday, Feb. 25, Magoffin County defeated Floyd Central 69-48.
Paintsville forced Magoffin County to slip back into the loss column prior to the first day in March, topping the Hornets 59-42 on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Hornets are scheduled to host former 57th District counterpart Lawrence County on Thursday, March 4. Tip-off for the Magoffin County-Lawrence County boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
Magoffin County is slated to compete in the Pikeville Invitational Friday, March 5-Saturday, March 6.
The Hornets have additional regular season games remaining versus Pike County Central (March 9, home) and Prestonsburg (March 12, away).
