Hornets fall to Jaguars

EASTERN — Magoffin County owned a lead but couldn’t hold off the home team as Floyd Central pulled away to win 14-4 in six innings on Tuesday, March 18.

The Hornets led 4-3 heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning. However, Floyd Central erupted for eight runs during its fifth at-bat to take control of the matchup.

Finishing strong, Floyd Central crossed home plate three times during the bottom half of the sixth inning to claim the 10-run win.

Pitching in relief for Floyd Central, Landon Prater picked up the win. Prater pitched two and one-third innings and recorded seven strikeouts.

Grant Jenkins started on the mound for Floyd Central and pitched three and two-thirds innings. Jenkins posted four strikeouts.

Evan Reed pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief for Magoffin County and absorbed the loss. Reed struck out one Floyd Central batter.

Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and pitched two and one-third innings. Howard recorded three strikeouts.

Floyd Central scored 14 runs on 12 hits. Jenkins (three hits, three RBIs), Logan Meade (two hits, three RBIs), Barrett Williams (two hits, two RBIs), Logan Moore (two hits, one RBI), Jace Martin (two hits), Kolten Crum (one hit, one RBI), Mason Anderson (one RB) and Luke Gibson (one RBI) each produced offensively for the Jaguars.

Magoffin County pushed across four runs on three hits. Aden Montgomery (one hit, one RBI), Gavin Arnett (one hit, one RBI) and Brayden Carroll (one hit, one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Hornets.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Floyd Central for a mid-season game on Monday, April 14.
