LOUISA – Magoffin County fell behind early and couldn’t battle back as Lawrence County pulled away to win 47-6 in the first round of the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 5.
The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs. Magoffin County exited the 2021 high school football season 6-4.
Lawrence County moved ahead early and forced the Hornets to play from behind throughout the postseason matchup. The Bulldogs led 40-0 at halftime.
Lawrence County rushed 33 times for 381 yards and seven touchdowns.
Three Bulldogs rushed over 100 yards in the win.
Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County, rushing eight times for 136 yards and one touchdown.
Douglas Hall finished as the Bulldogs’ second-leading rusher, rushing eight times for 110 yards and one touchdown.
Following Hall, Blue Fletcher rushed nine times for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Chipping in on the ground for Lawrence County, Cody Crum, Kaden Gillispie and Alex Strickland added one rushing touchdown apiece.
Defensively, Lawrence County recorded five interceptions.
Magoffin County was limited to 83 yards of total offense in the setback.
The Hornets rushed 23 times for 70 yards and one touchdown.
Quarterback Lucas Litteral rushed for the Hornets’ only touchdown in the season-ending loss.
Kajun Williams and Ian McCarty paced Magoffin County defensively, recording six tackles apiece for the Hornets.
Lawrence County (8-3) is scheduled to visit Belfry in the second round of the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 12.
