Hornets fall to Tigers in district tournament’s semifinals

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County couldn’t battle back from behind as Paintsville won 12-2 in six innings during the semifinals of the 57th District Baseball Tournament on Monday, May 19.

The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the 57th District Baseball Tournament. Magoffin County exited the 2025 high school baseball season 3-24.

Paintsville scored first and never trailed. Breaking open a scoreless game, Paintsville erupted for five runs in the bottom half of the second inning.

Magoffin County plated a pair of runs in the top half of the third inning but couldn’t get any closer.

Paintsville managed to score seven runs over its last two at-bats to claim the 10-run win.

Luke Stratton pitched a complete game for Paintsville and earned the win on the mound. Stratton recorded 10 strikeouts.

Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Trusty pitched four innings and recorded eight strikeouts.

Following Trusty, Isaac Howard and Evan Reed each pitched in relief for the Hornets.

Paintsville scored 12 runs on seven hits. Brody Howell (two hits, two RBIs), Alex Kimbler (one hit, two RBIs), Dixon Kincheloe (one hit, two RBIs), Brayden Davis (one hit, one RBI), Riley Jayne (one hit, one RBI) and Colton Short (one hit, one RBI) were each productive in Paintsville’s lineup.

Magoffin County pushed across two runs on three hits. Trusty (one hit, two RBIs), Gavin Arnett (one hit) and Parker Bowling (one hit) accounted for Magoffin County’s offense. Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Trusty homered.
