SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is nearing the tip-off of its 2025-26 season opener, which will be against a 15th Region rival.
Less than two years after capturing its first 15th Region title, Magoffin County will tip off the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season at Phelps in a non-district matchup on Monday, Dec. 1.
The opening tip of the Magoffin County-Phelps boys’ basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Magoffin County and Phelps met twice during the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season. Phelps defeated Magoffin County 70-56 in a regular season matchup on Saturday, Feb. 1. Then, exactly one month later on Saturday, March 1, Phelps prevailed 70-59 over Magoffin County in the 2024-25 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Magoffin County compiled a 7-22 record in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season. Under the direction of Coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County only returned one starter from its 2023-24 15th Region boys’ basketball championship team.
Showing improvement in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season, Phelps put together a 15-13 record.
Magoffin County’s complete schedule for the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season has been finalized and released.
Boys’ high school basketball teams from across the state will be on the court for 2025-26 season openers on Monday, Dec. 1 or the following days.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Phelps for a late-season game on Feb. 16, 2026.
