SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is headed to Pike County Central for its opener in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season.
The Hornets are scheduled to visit the Hawks for a 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season opener on Thursday, Dec. 2.
Magoffin County exited the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season 12-12. The Hornets suffered a season-ending loss to rival Paintsville in the semifinals of the 2020-21 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Pike County Central compiled a 16-11 record in the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season. Following a 60th District runner-up finish, Pike County Central made an appearance in the 2020-21 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Eric Ratliff replaced Robert Amis as Pike County Central’s head coach during the offseason.
Magoffin County and Pike County Central are familiar 15th Region rivals.
The Hawks outlasted the Hornets 55-54 in a 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season opener. However, Magoffin County bounced back to defeat Pike County Central 86-77 when the two teams met late in the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County is slated to host Pike County Central for another game in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
