PIKEVILLE — Magoffin County defeated Pike County Central 8-3 for its first win in the 2026 high school baseball season on Monday, March 23.
The win allowed Magoffin County to improve to 1-2.
Magoffin County finished strong to secure the win. The Hornets led 4-3 at the end of the sixth inning. Magoffin County plated four runs in the top half of the seventh inning on the way to claiming the victory.
Michael Trusty started on the mound for Magoffin County and earned the win. Trusty pitched five innings, holding Pike County Central to two runs on two hits while recording 13 strikeouts.
Following Trusty on the mound for Magoffin County, Hunter Arnett pitched two innings in relief. Arnett limited Pike County Central to one run and tallied four strikeouts.
Kameron Smith started on the mound for Pike County Central and suffered the loss. Smith posted four strikeouts.
Following Smith on the mound for Pike County Central, Connor Johnson pitched two innings in relief. Johnson struck out two Magoffin County batters.
Magoffin County scored eight runs on six hits. Trusty (one RBI), Mason Peck (two hits), Aiden Carty (one hit, two RBIs), Brayden Bailey (one hit, one RBI), Aden Montgomery (one hit, one RBI) and Isaac Howard (one hit, one RBI) each produced at the plate in Magoffin County’s winning effort. Carty homered while both Montgomery and Howard doubled.
Offensively for Pike County Central, Jonah Hicks (two hits), Korbin Ratliff (one hit) and Hayden Owens (two RBIs) each contributed.
Magoffin County is slated to host Pike County Central for a late-season game on Monday, May 11.
