SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is less than one month away from kicking off its latest gridiron campaign.
The Hornets are slated to visit Rowan County for their opening game in the 2025 high school football season.
Magoffin County and Rowan County did not meet during the 2024 high school football season, which concluded for each team in early-November of last year.
Both the Hornets and the Vikings will be looking to show improvement early in the 2025 high school football season.
Magoffin County and Rowan County are due to meet for a season opener on Friday, Aug. 22.
The Hornets and Vikings will face off in a non-district matchup.
Both Magoffin County and Rowan County exited the 2024 high school football season 2-8. Magoffin County (Class 3A, District 8) won its 2024 season finale, defeating Morgan County 41-18.

Magoffin County has released its schedule for the 2025 high school football season. In addition to Rowan County, Magoffin County has upcoming games scheduled versus Floyd Central, Perry County Central, West Carter, Winfield (W.Va.), Estill County, Powell County, Letcher County Central, Pike County Central and Lawrence County.
Prior to kicking off the 2025 high school football season at Rowan County, Magoffin County is slated to host Fleming County and Montgomery County for scrimmages.
Several experienced players are back for Magoffin County, which opened preseason practice on Thursday, July 10.
