Hornets look to carry momentum into next district game

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is preparing to visit Pike County Central for its final Class 3A, District 8 game in the 2022 high school football regular season on Friday, Oct. 14.

The Hornets are fresh off defeating Floyd Central 46-16 for a Class 3A, District 8 win on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Magoffin County is 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have claimed wins over Floyd Central, Bellevue and Knott County Central. Magoffin County has dropped games to Breathitt County, Prestonsburg, Lawrence County and Belfry.

Pike County Central is 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hawks have topped Pendleton County and Floyd Central. Pike County Central has dropped games to Shelby Valley, Letcher County Central, Clay County, Harlan County and Lawrence County.

“We went back to work on Monday with another big district game at Pike County Central coming,” Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett commented, earlier in the week. “Hats off to our coaches for putting in extra meeting time and film prep. We’ve got a solid staff that cares about the players and works hard each week to prepare them to succeed.”

The Hornets and Hawks are familiar rivals. Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Pike County Central 76-54 in a Class 3A, District 8 game during the 2021 high school football season.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Pike County Central game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
