SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County opened preseason practice on Monday, July 15.
The Hornets are preparing to compete in the 2024 high school football season.
Over the weekend, Magoffin County’s fourth year players and some members of the MC coaching staff took a trip to Red River Gorge. The senior retreat was held prior to the Hornets starting preseason practice.
Magoffin County compiled a 4-7 record in the 2023 high school football season. The Hornets made an appearance in the 2023 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs. Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8.
Currently, Magoffin County is focused on the 2024 high school football season. Magoffin County has regular season games scheduled versus Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County.
Under the direction of Coach John DeRossett, Magoffin County will visit Montgomery County for its season opener on Saturday, Aug. 24. Magoffin County graduate Michael Caba guides Montgomery County. For the second straight year, Magoffin County and Montgomery County will meet in the tradition-rich Recreation Bowl.
