Hornets outlast Leslie County

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County outlasted Leslie County 9-7 on Friday, March 21.

Gabe Burchell registered his first win as Magoffin County head coach, guiding the Hornets past a former 14th Region champion.

Michael Trusty pitched five innings in relief for Magoffin County and earned the win on the mound. Trusty recorded nine strikeouts during his outing.

Hunter Arnett started on the mound for Magoffin County and pitched two innings. Arnett stuck out two Leslie County batters.

Magoffin County scored nine runs on seven hits. Mason Peck paced Magoffin County at the plate, finishing three-for-three. In addition to Peck, Magoffin County’s offensive attack featured Gavin Arnett (one hit), Hunter Arnett (one hit, one RBI), Trusty (one RBI), Aidan Carty (one hit, one RBI), Brayden Carroll (one hit) and Chance Risner (one hit). Delivering an extra-base hit for Magoffin County, Carty doubled.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Leslie County for a regular season finale on Friday, May 16.
