SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to host Clay County for a non-district high school football game on Friday, Oct. 22.
The Hornets are 5-2. Magoffin County has claimed wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue, Floyd Central and Pike County Central, The Hornets have dropped games to Lawrence County and Belfry. However, Magoffin County has notched back-to-back wins.
Quarterback Lucas Litteral is leading Magoffin County in passing and rushing. Helping to pace Magoffin County offensively, Aden Barnett and Brad Standifer rank as the Hornets’ top two receivers.
Magoffin County has passed for nearly 1,500 yards. Delivering on the ground, Magoffin County has rushed for nearly 1,000 yards.
A member of Class 4A, District 8, Clay County is 4-4. The Tigers have posted wins over Leslie County, Lynn Camp, Pike County Central and Harlan County. Clay County has dropped games to Knox Central, Johnson Central, Letcher County Central and Perry County Central. Currently, Clay County is on a three-game losing skid.
Quarterback Tate Rice and running back Trevor Spurlock combine to lead the Tigers. Rice has passed for nearly 1,200 yards. Producing on the ground for Clay County, Spurlock has rushed for over 700 yards.
Due to COVID, Magoffin County and Clay County did not meet during the 2020 high school football season.
Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Clay County and Morgan County.
