SALYERSVILLE — Herald Whitaker shut out rival Morgan County 34-0 in a middle school football game on Thursday, Aug. 28.
The Hornets turned in a dominant performance, taking control early and pulling away to win convincingly.
Quarterback Cole Howard led Herald Whitaker to the win, completing six passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Howard scored on both offense and special teams, returning a punt for a touchdown.
Layne McCarty led the Hornets in receiving. McCarty hauled in two receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Aiding the Hornets through the air, Jackson Hoskins added two receptions for 20 yards and one touchdown.
Bentley Lemaster led Herald Whitaker on the ground. Lemaster rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown.
Contributing via special teams for the Hornets, kicker Carson Hirst connected on two extra-point kicks.
Hirst, Layton Gibson, Caden Montgomery, Payton Howard, Henry Holbrook and Cole Howard each produced defensively for the Hornets.
Herald Whitaker is scheduled to host Betsy Layne for its next game on Thursday, Sept. 4.
