SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat 15th Region opponent East Ridge 80-58 in a boys’ basketball game on Friday, Feb. 6.
The Hornets returned to the win column after falling to Martin County in a 57th District game one night earlier.
Magoffin County produced both offensively and defensively. The Hornets scored 80 or more points for the third time in the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the field. The Hornets made five of 18 three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 50.0 percent (nine-of-18) from the free throw line.
Walker Russell, a candidate for 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year, led Magoffin County to the win. Russell scored 22 points for the Hornets.
Accompanying Russell in double figures for Magoffin County, Michael Trusty and Dason Burchett netted 12 points apiece.
Magoffin County received scoring from 10 different players. The additional scorers for Magoffin County were Parker Bowling (seven points), Caleb Lovely (six points), Jackson Gilliland (six points), Maycen Allen (six points), Evan Reed (three points), Matthew Hall (three points) and Noah Gibson (three points).
