Hornets to compete in 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is headed into the boys’ high school basketball postseason.

The Hornets are preparing to compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Johnson Central.

The 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament is scheduled to tip off at Johnson Central on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Magoffin County will enter the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament seeded fourth. The Hornets will meet number one seed Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Marttin County swept Magoffin County in the two teams’ regular season series. But the Hornets continue to show improvement in second half of the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season.

The Cardinals compiled a 5-1 57th District record.

The Hornets finished 0-6 in the 57th District.

Crosstown rivals Johnson Central and Paintsville will meet in the other game during the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament. Johnson Central is the number two seed while Paintsville is seeded third.

The Golden Eagles compiled a 5-1 57th District record.

The Tigers finished 2-4 in the 57th District.

Martin County is the defending 57th District boys’ basketball champion.

Game times for the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament were not finalized at press time.
