Hornets to host Belfry for home opener

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to host 15th Region rival Belfry for its home opener in the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The Hornets and Pirates met once during the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season. Belfry defeated Magoffin County 77-66 in the two teams’ last meeting on Dec. 28, 2024.

Magoffin County entered the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season set to play away from its home court in four straight outings.

Prior to hosting the home opener, Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Betsy Layne (Thursday, Dec. 4), meet Knott County Central at Pike County Central (Saturday, Dec. 6) and venture to both Lawrence County (Monday, Dec. 8) and Estill County (Tuesday, Dec. 9).

Magoffin County is slated to visit Belfry for a game in the second half of the 2025-26 boys’ high school basketball season. The Hornets and Pirates are due to meet in Pike County on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

Magoffin County captured a 15th Region title less than two years ago. The Hornets finished 7-22 in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season.

Belfry compiled a similar record in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season, exiting the campaign 8-20.

The upcoming Magoffin County-Belfry boys’ basketball game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
