Hornets to host Bellevue

SALYERSVILLE — After posting its first win in the 2022 high school football season, Magoffin County is scheduled to host Bellevue on Friday, Sept. 9.

Magoffin County 1-2. After opening the season with back-to-back losses to Breathitt County and Prestonsburg, Class 3A, District 8 member Magoffin County shut out visiting Knott County Central 39-0 in the Founders Day Bowl on Friday, Sept. 2. The Hornets showed much improvement in the shutout win over Knott County Central.

Head coach John DeRossett guides Magoffin County. DeRossett is in his first season as the Hornets’ head coach.

Bellevue is 0-3. A member of Class 1A, District 4, Bellevue has suffered shutout losses to Holy Cross (Covington), Metcalfe County and Bishop Brossart. Through three games, opponents have outscored Bellevue 142-0.

Magoffin County and Bellevue have met before. The Hornets pulled away to beat the Tigers 40-14 in 2021.

Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Bellevue, Lawrence County, Belfry, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County. Following the matchup versus Bellevue, Magoffin County will host Lawrence County for its Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 16.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Bellevue football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
