SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to host Perry County Central for its home opener in the 2025 high school football season on Friday, Sept. 5.

The Hornets and Commodores have not met for a high school football matchup in over 23 years.
“We are excited to be at home,” Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett commented on Tuesday, Sept. 2. “We opened up with two road games, so it will be great to play in front of our home crowd. We appreciate our community and all the support they give our team. We’ve got a blue-collar team that plays hard every snap. We’ve gotten in a couple of JV games and players are getting game experience.
“Perry County Central is a 4A school and Coach (Mark) Dixon is a good friend and coach. They are big and strong at every position. Our team has prepared hard for this game. These games will get us ready for our district games starting in week six. We’ve got a few injuries but there’s guys who will step up and fill their roles. Our team is progressing each day, and I am pleased with their work ethic and discipline.”
