SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to host Pike County Central for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 15.
Under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, Magoffin County is 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have recorded wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue and Floyd Central. Magoffin County has dropped games to Lawrence County and Belfry.
Offensively, Magoffin County has been able to produce through the air and on the ground. Magoffin County has completed 53 of 110 passes for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Hornets have rushed 163 times for 801 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Pike County Central is 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hawks have claimed wins over Pendleton County, Floyd Central and Phelps (COVID Cancelation). Pike County Central has dropped games to Shelby Valley, Letcher County Central (COVID Cancelation), Clay County, Harlan County and Lawrence County.
The Hawks are excelling on the ground. In six games, Pike County Central has rushed 284 times for 1,852 yards and 22 touchdowns. Pike County Central is averaging 308.7 yards and 3.7 touchdowns on the ground per game in the 2021 high school football season.
Magoffin County is slated to close out the 2021 high school football regular season on its home field.
The Hornets have regular season games remaining versus Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County.
Pike County Central pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 82-52 in a shootout during the 2020 high school football season.
